Teacher Appreciation Week on the first Monday through Friday in May honoring those who have dedicated their lives to education. Teachers provide students with the tools and resources they will build upon for the rest of their lives. Not only do they educate, but they also serve as mentors and guide our youth, too.
We asked the community to tell us about their favorite teacher. Today's we're featuring our Elementary educators.

As my daughter’s 1st grade teacher and a continued support in 2nd grade, she has always gone above and beyond to make my daughter feel safe, welcomed, and empowered. Despite my daughter’s behaviors at times, she always made my daughter feel like she belonged and was an important member of the classroom. We never felt as if my daughter was an inconvenience. Katie Knox
"She has made a lasting impact on both of my children, having been their teacher over the past two years and even before that as their student teacher.
From the very beginning, it was clear she has a natural gift for working with children. Even though she has only been teaching for two years, her kindness, patience, and dedication are truly exceptional. She takes the time to understand each student and creates a classroom where kids feel safe, supported, and valued.
Ms. Knox also brings so much joy into learning. She makes school fun, and my children come home excited to share their day. That kind of enthusiasm speaks volumes about the environment she creates.
Having experienced her teaching with both of my children, I’ve seen firsthand how consistent and caring she is with every student. She is already making a meaningful difference in so many young lives.
I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this recognition."

Lisa Black
"She has been my son's vision teacher for 4 years. Mrs. Lisa is an amazing homebound vision teacher. She is very passionate and caring about her job. There is nothing she will not do for my son or her other students. Mrs. Lisa will go above and beyond to make sure that my son has everything he needs and more to make sure he can properly see the schoolwork clearly. She even makes sure the worksheets my son is working on have green puffy paint around where he has to answer the questions to accommodate his needs. That is just a few of the things she has done. I could go on for days on what she would do to help my son succeed in school.
Mrs. Lisa has even learned how to use my son's Tobii so she can help ensure everything is set up in the colors he needs, and she has learned many more things to support him. Mrs. Lisa sees the potential my son has and pushes him in the best way possible to reach his goals. She works so well with him and doesn’t shy away because of his disabilities. She gives him a way to communicate using his eyes. She also checks in to make sure others are on the same page to ensure his goals are met. The way my son lights up when she comes through the door says it all!"
